As you may be aware, as part of our DEIS Literacy Plan, this year all pupils from 3rd-6th classes in our school are taking part in the Accelerated Reader (AR) Programme. Accelerated Reader is goal-driven reading program which aims to encourage students to read more and to increase their literacy levels.

An assembly took place yesterday with Mr. Duignan explaining Accelerated Reader to the pupils in 3rd-6th classes and presenting the classes with their new AR libraries. Parents of pupils in these classes will be sent  information over the next number of days.

Aims of the Accelerated Reader programme:

• To improve literacy
• To foster a love of reading
• To create a pleasurable and fun atmosphere around improving pupils’ reading ability

This has been a considerable investment of time and money for our school and we greatly appreciate the hard work from Mr. Duignan  (Deputy Principal and Literacy Coordinator), and our school’s Literacy Team in getting this up and running.
