ICT.
Our BOM has recently approved an ICT Plan with priorities for the current year and the next four years. The main priorities for this year are
(A) New Website to enhance communication.
(b) AN ICT station of three desktop pc’s in each classroom for group work, differentiation, Lexia & Literacy Planet (Literacy ) and IXL (Numeracy ) to name but a few.
(C) Ipads with keyboards for all class teachers. The aim of this is to make the classroom management of Literacy and Numeracy Apps more effective where the class teacher can wirelessly observe pupils’ engagement and also publish and review pupils’ resources on the interactive boards. We currently have a mobile set of thirty two ipads that moves from class to class when required. We also have a set of fourteen ipads with our Special Education Teachers for use in station teaching in all classes for all pupils. The initial feedback on this is very positive.
(d) Legowedo Initiative This is being piloted in Mr Canny’s Class and Mr Hennelly’s Class and is being rolled out to 5th and 4th classes. This is essentially robotics and coding where pupils curiosity is ignited while enhancing their skills in science engineering, technology and coding. The class set of ipads is used for the programming element of this initiative.
As a staff we have reviewed our ICT needs and challenges. We see a blend of IPad ‘s , Class ICT stations, and an ICT room as the way forward with our digital strategy. We see these as tools to advance teaching and learning. This strategy is being funded by Department of Education multi-anuaI ICT and Deis Literacy & Numeracy grants. In June next year we should be equipping our new ICT room.
