Mr. Shevlin’s sixth class were busy making ice cream as part of a science experiment on Friday. The pupils all had their own equipment – 2 ziplock bags, measuring jugs, cups and spoons. They followed a procedure of mixing milk, cream, sugar and vanilla extract in the smaller ziploc bag. An Ice and salt mixture was placed in the larger bag. They then placed the smaller bag in the larger bag and shook the two together for 10 minutes.
The reaction of the salt lowers the melting point of the ice whilst also taking heat from the milk/cream mixture which cause it to freeze!
The pupils were very happy with their results! All the experimenting was undertaken in a ‘Covid safe’ manner.
A very nice treat on a sunny Friday afternoon.
